The Cariboo Sentinel Printing Press Revival Project is an initiative to revive Barkerville's letterpress and relief printing equipment on-site and support Cariboo artist-historians in development. Twelve artists, one for each month of the year, will have the opportunity to hone their skills by exploring contemporary and historic techniques that can be utilized with our printing equipment while creating unique stationery and art prints for you to enjoy.

By purchasing a subscription to the project, a limited-run print will be mailed to you each month in 2021. Each print will vary in size, style, colour, artist, and theme, but all will be suitable for use as a greeting card or small framed artwork. All twelve works will be designed by local artist-historians who work in Barkerville Historic Town & Park and printed on antique presses in Barkerville’s Cariboo Sentinel Print Shop.

Note: no items will be mailed in January, and two items will be mailed in February. If you purchase a subscription after the first month has begun, you will be mailed all the monthly artworks that have been issued to date. Postage is include in the listed price of the subscription.

January's print: Year of the Ox
by Leila Sumi
As the daughter of a printmaking artist, Leila spent many hours outdoors in nature with her mom and a sketchbook. Her love of wild places led her to a profession working in National Parks, but her love of art always remained.
She enjoys the rhythmic sonic quality of a smoothly working platen press. The linocuts she carves in the printshop allow her to incorporate stylistic elements of her Japanese heritage. She strives for simplicity and calm where outside influences may dictate otherwise.

February's print: Love is Love
by Connor Kenney
Connor is an artist based in Wells, BC who specializes in landscape paintings and works for as Barkerville as a graphic designer.
His design for this month's print was inspired by early 1900s handcrafted Valentine's day cards, which were traditionally made with thread, collage, and needlework.

March's print: St. Patrick's Day
Collaboration between Brendan Bailey (poet) and Rachael Chaisson (artist)
coming March 1st!
